Uhlmann Blister Packing Machine Retrofit
Control system retrofit for Uhlmann blister packing machines — PLC, HMI and servo drive restoration bringing high-speed blister lines back to reliable production.
- Client
- Pharmaceutical packaging line
- Category
- Packaging Machinery
- Scope
- Retrofit programme
- Technologies
- Mitsubishi PLC
- Mitsubishi / Beijer HMI
- Servo drives
- Electrical panel
The challenge
High-speed blister packing machines had reached the point where obsolete control hardware and discontinued HMI panels were driving unplanned downtime. Spares were scarce and fault diagnosis had become guesswork, while the mechanical platform itself remained sound and well worth retaining.

Uhlmann blister packing machine — control cabinet and drive section

Restored operator panel and machine sequence
Our approach
- 01Full survey of the existing control architecture, drive configuration and machine safety interlocks
- 02Component-level testing of PLC, HMI and servo amplifier hardware to isolate genuine failures
- 03Replacement and repair strategy balancing original Mitsubishi and Beijer components with supported alternatives
- 04Re-programming of control logic and HMI screens to match the operator's original working sequence
- 05On-machine proving and commissioning across the full machine cycle
Outcome
- High-speed blister machines returned to dependable production without replacing the mechanical platform
- Recoverable faults corrected at component level instead of by whole-unit replacement
- Operator screens restored to a familiar, documented layout
- Maintenance team trained on the restored control architecture
